The insurance education of Fudan University can be traced back to 1919, and it is one of the few well-known universities in the world with more than 100 years of insurance education. According to the "Fudan University Constitution" (1920) and "University Business Course Schedule", the insurance department of Fudan University offered five courses in "calculus", "insurance interest calculation", "insurance principle", "industry" and "insurance bookkeeping". Even if Fudan University moved to Chongqing after the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, under difficult conditions, insurance was still listed as an elective course in the Department of Statistics, and the fire of China's insurance education was retained. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Fudan University immediately resumed the education of insurance subjects. The transcripts collected by the School History Museum show that by 1952, the Business School, the Law School, and the Finance and Economics School successively set up "Insurance Studies", "Insurance Cooperation", "Marine Insurance Law" and "Social Insurance Law". Insurance", "Labor Insurance" and other courses. After the reform and opening up, with the rapid recovery and development of my country's insurance industry, Fudan University restarted the "Insurance Studies" course and assumed the important task of cultivating talents for the revitalization of China's insurance industry.

In recent years, the insurance discipline of Fudan University has made great progress, and it has been selected as a national double first-class discipline (2022) based on the discipline of applied economics. The accounting and finance discipline ranks 50th in the world in the QS2019 World University Rankings by Subject. The insurance team of Fudan University presided over a number of special insurance research projects entrusted by the United Nations, the British Academy of Sciences, the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Education, etc., and established special certification projects such as pension planners and health insurance planners, and held Shanghai Forum. China Insurance Centennial Hotspot Dialogue and other important industry influential forums to promote the development of China's insurance teaching research and industry progress.

The century-old Fudan Insurance Education has cultivated a large number of talents for China's financial industry. In the early 1930s, in Shanghai, where there were many foreign insurance companies, the national insurance industry united and established the Shanghai Association of Traders. Among them were many Fudan University alumni, such as Ding Xuenong, the first associate manager of Taiping Insurance, and Fuhua Insurance Chairman and CEO. General Manager Xu Xiaochu, etc. In the current surging development of the insurance industry in China, many Fudan alumni hold important positions such as CEOs, chief actuaries and senior executives of insurance companies.
