With growing and aging populations worldwide, the number of patients with cancer continues to increase. Meanwhile, medical advances in imaging technologies have accelerated early detections.　 For the elderly, the expansion of minimally invasive surgeries, using endoscopy and laparoscopy, have extended surgical indications. The prognosis after radiotherapy and chemotherapy has improved in the 2000s, and developments in molecular biology and genetics have opened new doors to personalized precision medicine compared to standardized treatments. In this session, we will review global trends of cancer epidemiology and discuss the research results in Asia and Japan.
