The requirement for a good internal actuarial Governance Structure is becoming increasingly pertinent and relevant, not only in Africa, but also internationally.

The presentation's key theme revolves around a well known aviation case study, which shows how a successful Governance Structure prevented disaster in the United States.

The presentation goes on to investigate and unpack three key cornerstones which I believe is a good actuarial governance structure: Internal Guidance, the Peer-review structure and continuous up-skilling of staff. It also puts forward governance structure elements of other professions around the world (for example the American Medical profession) which could address key concerns in the Actuarial profession.

The presentation also touches on innovation as an important vehicle to drive good governance.
