Following the UK’s gilts crisis in September and October 2022, Liability Driven Investing (LDI) made its way to media front pages and alerted many market participants and pensions stakeholders to the potential operational and liquidity risks that must be understood regarding it.
Trustees, sponsors and investment managers for defined benefit (DB) pension schemes raced to shore up hedging portfolios and manage the risk of LDI, which has been used for some time to manage the interest rate and inflation risks inherent in DB pension liabilities. This event will consider the learnings from the UK experience, as well as the outlook for LDI in an Irish context and the key factors that Irish DB scheme stakeholders need to consider.
