This session will discuss ethical issues in the use of data such as unfairness and unintended discrimination. We will see some examples and approaches aimed at increasing the trustworthiness of our modelling and use of data by being aware of ethical considerations, the need for transparency, explainability and auditability. This session will also review some potential approaches that insurers can take to enhance their governance frameworks to oversee this topic. There will be a particular focus on pricing but the rationale and applications are relevant to the use of advanced modelling in general, including machine learning and artificial intelligence.
